Principles of food consumption

There are lots of weight-loss and fitness articles here on and millions more on the web but — when it comes to eating — there are some basic principles that can be summarized in a short list.

  • Eat small
    • smaller portions
    • smaller meals
  • Be aware of how foods affect you
    • keep a food diary — how do you feel a few hours after eating specific foods
  • Gut feelings
    • what is your gut telling you about about how food is affecting you
  • Eat slowly
  • Take small bites
  • Limit sodium
  • Drink lots of water
  • Of course it matters what you eat but quantity is important. You can lose weight eating anything, if you limit quantities.
  • Exercise is important but don’t exaggerate how many calories you’re burning up. Here’s a pretty good activity calculator
